My Fall Morning Routine – 2016

We’re in the midst of that funny transition after daylight savings–the evenings are growing darker and colder very quickly, but the sun is also rising a little earlier. The sky is holding on to bright early mornings as long as it can before short days takeover. And I’m making the most of it!

Rising Early, Dressing Warm & Staying Quiet

The chilly and dim angle of the sun has put me into hyper sweater mode. I’ve been getting up just after the sun peeks out, around 6:45am, and throwing on chunky sweaters and socks to cozy up with my first cup of coffee while I do my quiet time. I just cracked open a bag of perfectly light roasted Caribou Coffee Daybreak Morning Blend. dsc_0530Just the name “Daybreak” gives me fuzzy fall feelings. Also, I’m currently reading My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers as part of my quiet time. This book has been absolutely pivotal to my life lately. Even though it was originally published in 1935, it is more relevant than ever and I always look forward to cracking it open first thing each day.

Greeting My Little One

I try to keep the house quiet for as long as I can–just the sound of coffee brewing and the shower running while my husband gets ready for work–until Jonas wakes up talking to himself. If you are still struggling to wake up earlier than your family, check out my post 4 Reasons to Wake Up Earlier Than Your Family to get inspired! Just waking up 15 or 20 minutes earlier can really start your day off well.
dsc_0531Jonas usually wakes up around 7:30 and always greets me with a big smile! He has a little cold right now though, so he wasn’t as cheerful this morning as he usually is (he put his happy face on after a little while, as you can see). Since he’s had the sniffles, I’ve been using my doTERRA Petal Diffuser in his room to help him sleep a little better–a blend of On Guard, Lavender, and Lemon oils.
dsc_0537He sits in his high chair in the kitchen with me while I start on my second cup of coffee and turn on some motivating music or one of my favorite podcasts. Right now I’m stuck on Stefan Molyneux’s witty philosophies–you can check out his podcast at Freedomainradio.com. He is currently the number one most popular philosophy broadcast in the world. Today, though, I felt like a feel-good playlist.

Starting on My Daily Chores

Jonas and I spend a little time together before he goes in his jumper (he gets so excited) so I can start on my most important tasks for the day. This season that tends to be blog work, writing for NaNoWriMo, and starting a few basic chores, like laundry and straightening up the kitchen.

Making the Most of Naptime

Jonas is usually only awake for a couple of hours before he’s ready for a morning nap, at which point I spring into action to get as much done as I can while he’s snoozing. If I’m lucky, I can get half way through my to do list for the day. Naps can  never be long enough! But I always look forward to seeing this face again.

I, too, have been trying to get up a little earlier than usual, starting a fresh pot of coffee (although today I am making a recipe of russian tea), and spending some quiet time once my family is out the door for the day. Best part of the day!! When I don’t get to do this, the rest of my day seems to be off and not as productive. Keep up the good work.
