My Maternity Capsule Wardrobe

Giving up most of the clothes that make me feel like me for the past couple months has been tough! Thankfully, I’ve been able to hang on to a few pieces of my old self while incorporating a few new silhouettes to get through the third trimester. The key has been to mix and match a few basic pieces and rely heavily on shoes and accessories to change it up. And, of course, leggings are a girl’s best friend!

Luckily, I was able to wear my own clothes for about the first 25 weeks, so my capsule wardrobe didn’t really have to span across several seasons. This capsule wardrobe reflects pregnancy in the winter season.

As you can see, my narrow choices are fairly versatile. I am super minimalist! I am keeping my main colors in the green, blue, and black family with a few other pops of color thrown in. Most of the pieces are everyday clothes with roomier cuts. There are a few other pieces I weave into the mix here and there, but these are the pieces I’ve relied on the most: Two long-cut striped sweaters, three solid-color sweaters, a plaid button-up (which I’m honestly just about going to have to retire in the last few weeks), three tunic tops (two with fun patterns), a coat, a rain jacket, and three pairs of pants.

My go-to accessories have definitely been scarves, boots, flats, and different bags. If you play your cards right and mix and match well, no one will know you are only getting by with 14 articles of clothing during pregnancy! 😉

I am glad to see you still have the desire to dress up.

I am hoping you will visit the MPL with your baby after he/she is born. I work on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. I also work Saturdays.

Love the versatility of these pieces. You can definitely create lots of different outfits when you incorporate different accessories. You always wanted to try the 13 in 30 or whatever # it was. Now you’ve had your chance and you’ve definitely risen to the challenge.

This is great! I just started my own capsule wardrobe project, and I have a 13 month old. I have gotten a few questions about how to make a maternity capsule using non-maternity pieces (as well as some maternity). I have no idea what to tell people! I was one of those people who dropped over $400 on clothes I wore for 5 months then sold at a garage sale for $20. Part of my reason for looking for a better/smarter way to buy clothes. Good luck on your maternity capsule!

I went to a few of my favorite stores and just bought drapey cuts that I could wear now and later. I’m 34 weeks and have only bought one or two maternity tops and two pairs of maternity pants! The rest are just less fitted styles. 🙂
